Blessed Margaret of Castello

The Hook and I

With the grace of God, I wrote "The Hook and I" over several years to assist any Catholic suffering from a sinful addiction using a method somewhat similar to typical 12-Steps programs but re-tooled to make use of Catholic spirituality. This was to: 1) avoid the false spirituality that the typical 12-Steps makes use of, which is a serious danger to a Catholic's faith, and, more importantly, 2) to take advantage of the rich tools, both spiritual and natural, that are to be found within the Cathoic Church. Why go elsewhere when you can find what you need right here at home, so to speak.

Of course I want you to buy the book; its only $22.00 plus shipping and handling online and $24.99 retail. It's the only practical way for addicts to be able to take advantage of the Catholic 12-Steps program. In addition, it's the only practical way for the Blessed Margaret Family Help Center, Inc. to raise funds. You see, 100% of the royalties go toward financing the Center's operations. Running a website and shipping books costs money, of course. I wrote the book but I don't receive even a single red cent from the sales of the book.

Because we make the best royalties from direct sales, I would please ask you to buy The Hook and I directly from the publisher and you can click on this link in order to do so. You can also purchase the book from any of the mainstream book retailers you find in the malls or on Amazon.com. Your choice.

On the old website I went into extensive detail about the Catholic 12-Steps but here I'm going to take advantage of what I've already written in the book by providing you with a series of sections of the book as pdf's for you to view. No, the entire book isn't here so you can't get it all for free but you can get a rather detailed understanding of the program to see if it's for you or not.

The webpage Catholic 12-Steps to fight addiction contains an overview and our strategy so I won't repeat them here but I will present to you some information about the author, about the book in general, addictions, here is where I will explain what a "hook" is, an article on St. Augstine of Hippo who is one of my (and the Center's) patron saints, and one of the more controversial topics that I write about, and that is why a 12-Steps program must be Catholic if we are going to use our hook for more than just defeating but actually use it as a steppingstone for us to strive for holiness. I have two patron saints that are key to the Catholic 12-Steps. If you know about the right-to-life movement you will probably have heard of one but the other is virtually unknown in the English-speaking world. The first is the namesake of the Blessed Margaret Family Help Center, Inc, Blessed Margaret of Castello and the second is Venerable Antonio Margil de Jesus who was instrumental in the naming of the men's pornography addiction support group that I briefly ran.
