Several prayers were composed in order to help souls overcome their hooks or to help loved ones with hooks. I've consolidated them all to save space and make it easier to find them. I've also converted them to pdf format to make it easier to save/copy/print them for your own use. Below you will find the Blessed Margaret Novena, The Nothingness Itself Prayer, and the Lazarus Prayer. Feel free to copy and distribute them as you see fit; please reference the Blessed Margaret Family Help Center, Inc in all copies.
A novena prayer is a prayer that is said nine times. Normally, once a day for nine days, although this isn't a hard and fast rule. The first novena was said in the nine day period between the Ascension of Our Lord and Pentecost when the Apostles were assembled in Jerusalem. This Novena to Blessed Margaret of Castello was written back when we were trying to get the 501c3 status for the Blessed Margaret Family Help Center, Inc. and were having difficulties overcoming the usual bureaucratic red tape of the IRS. It worked. As the Feast of Blessed Margaret of Castello is April 13th, the optimum time to say this novena is from April 4 to April 12, saying the novena once each day. This, of course isn't mandatory, I say the prayer numerous times throughout the day just to stay close to Little Margaret. It can be said for any worthwhile purpose but Blessed Margaret of Castello is recognized as the patroness of the unborn and unwanted. She could also be a patroness for the blind, the homeless, those suffering from temptations of the flesh, for home owners, and for protection from home fires. In any case, here is the Blessed Margaret of Castello Novena Prayer.
Because the Blessed Margaret Center is about helping families and not just those with addictions, I was approached by a young mother of seven whose husband had decided that spending his money on gambling was more important than paying his bills, in order to provide her with a prayer for her and her children to say for her husband. I composed "The Lazarus Prayer" in response to this woman's request. It is presented below and is intended for all families of addicts to say for the conversion of their beloved ones.
The Nothingness Itself Prayer was created as a daily prayer for those combatting their sinful addictions as both an Act of Humility and an Act of Hope. As Venerable Antonio Margil de Jesus is one of the patrons of The Hook and I and he referred to himself as "Nothingness Itself" or, in Spanish, "La Misma Nada", I hope this prayer invokes something of his spirit of humility. Humility being the most important virtue that the addict needs to inculcate in his soul in order to draw down the graces necessary to cut the line to his addiction. Therefore, this prayer is part of Step 11A, which states, "I will strengthen my sanctity by regular and fervent prayer. I will especially develop a great love for the Rosary and the Blessed Virgin. I will develop my own list of personal patron saints and I will pray to them regularly." In Step 11A, of the Catholic 12-Steps, the addict says the Morning Offering, the Rosary, and this prayer, the Nothingness Itself Prayer.
Because the Blessed Virgin Mary is so important to us as the Mediatrix of All Graces, the Blessed Margaret Family Help Center, Inc. has a special devotion to Our Lady of Grace. Without her special assistance in providing the graces we need, it is impossible for any of us to cut the line to our hooks, let alone be able to achieve the salvation of our souls.
